Bellydance classes

Local bellydance teachers celebrate!

Local Markbeech resident, Charlotte Desorgher, celebrated the 3rd birthday of her bellydancing school this Saturday (11 September). Hipsinc bellydance school, which started life in tiny Markbeech Village Hall, has grown to be the largest in the UK, with over 800 students around the south east.

The anniversary also coincides with the opening of the school’s latest class, in Tunbridge Wells’ Camden Centre. The new class, which starts this Thursday (16 September) will be taught by award winning US dancer, Razia, who is the latest addition to the teaching staff. Razia married Tunbridge Wells man, Mark Harvey, last week in her home state of Oregon.

Many hipsinc students have gone on to become professional dancers and teachers and one of Charlotte’s first students, Lea Smith (pictured) now teaches in Edenbridge. Lea’s students are a popular sight at local fetes and fund-raising events.

Charlotte says: So many women have been asking us to start a class in Tunbridge Wells but it has taken us a while to find a good venue. The Camden Centre is perfect.

Razia said: I’m so thrilled to be teaching in Tunbridge Wells, it’s such a beautiful town. And the fact that Mark’s family are here too, means I feel completely at home here, despite being away from my own family.

The glasses were raised at the final day of filming the team’s first instructional bellydance DVD, an exciting new venture for the school.

The new Tunbridge Wells beginners bellydancing classes are held at 6pm and 8pm every Thursday in the Camden Centre, Market Square, opposite the Royal Victoria Place Shopping Centre. Details on
